Lanzarote lies off the coast of Africa and is part of the Canary Islands. Summers on this volcanic island are actually cooler than on the Spanish mainland because of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean. Being that much further south, however, the weather in Lanzarote during the winter is far milder with temperatures at sea level hardly ever falling below 10°C even at night-time. Lanzarote weather can vary depending on exactly where you are – even so, it has the most consistent climate of all the islands of the archipelago, making it a favourite winter holiday destination.

The sun is never far away with 11 hours of sunshine a day at the summer peak between June and August and temperatures ranging from 20ºC in January to 30ºC in August. The sea is usually invitingly warm at between 18- 25C. Lanzarote weather is so arid because the island lacks the geographic qualities that would allow it to create the proper climate for rain cloud formation. So, the weather in Lanzarote occurs because of the island's lack of altitude in its hilly areas. Generally you can expect to enjoy plenty of sunshine and very little rainfall whatever time of year you choose to visit Lanzarote. You can also view month by month data, average temperatures, rainfall & daily sunshine hours.

Lanzarote have so much to offer and particularly the up and coming resort of Playa Blanca. The resort is less than 40 km from the capital of the island and even closer to the airport. It is considered to be one of the fastest growing resorts and there has been a great deal of development there in the last few years. It is still a much more tranquil place than some other resorts in the area and tourists will find that there is a variety of both accommodation and activities which should suit all tastes. Playa Blanca used to be a small fishing village and the port is still very important to the island. Ferries can be taken from there to Fuerteventura. Future plans for development include a golf course and there is already an upmarket marina which has drawn in large numbers of tourists

Summer weather in Fuerteventura

Lanzarote weather is virtually pleasant all year round. One of the factors that greatly influences the weather in Lanzarote is the northeast trade winds. The trade winds tend to keep the temperatures more moderate than one would normally expect from an island that sits so close to extreme desert climates--most notably the Sahara Desert to the east. For most of the summer months, July to September, the trade winds remain steady out of the northeast, keeping the breezes off the ocean cool - which should serve as a caution to tourists. Because the breeze is cool, tourists often forget to apply or reapply sunscreen. Lanzarote receives strong sun rays and you should always wear sun protection. However, when those winds make a shift and start coming in straight from the east, they bring in searing temperatures off the great Sahara desert winds that some locals have called "hair dryer winds.
